Let’s face it, while DJs or bands are still great entertainment options for corporate or social events, we’ve all seen our share of them.
And as longtime event planners in NJ and NY, we know how important it is to explore the alternatives to these run-of-the-mill approaches to event entertainment.
So, let’s take a look at some of the more uncommon entertainment options out there so that you can wow your guests and give them an event experience they’ll never forget.
Customize, right before their eyes.
One way to separate the entertainment at your events from your competitors’ is to customize it, and there are a few ways you can do that.
For example, there are poets who can craft poems right there on the spot on a variety of subjects related to your event and some even use vintage typewriters, which can be an eye-catching addition to the decor.
There are caricaturists, whether they’re old school or they use a tablet, live event painters, and even sand artists. Just think about it, while photos and videos are one thing, imagine having a genuine piece of art to help commemorate your event.
You can also add some personalization by having someone make pancakes in the shapes of attendees’ faces or by having someone create an original cinematic score for your live event as it unfolds, whether it’s an anniversary party or a corporate conference.
The point is, adding some customization to the entertainment portion of your event is a great way to get attendees to feel they’re getting a unique experience, one they wouldn’t find anywhere else.
Don’t be afraid to play with light… or fire.
Then there’s the light to consider because, as longtime NJ and NY event planners, trust us, with a little creativity, what could be just another mundane element of your event can be transformed into awe-inspiring entertainment.
There are entertainers out there who specialize in light shows, and other musicians and artists who use light creatively in their acts.
LED performers have also become a popular option for adding something of the spectacular to the entertainment portions of social or corporate events, especially if they’re technology-related in some way.
Whether they’re LED jugglers, hula-hoopers, or performers doing a choreographed dance in black suits with LED lights on them, it’s a great way to captivate the audience. Also, some of these performers can incorporate your brand or logo into their act as well.

Lastly, while you should never play with fire, that doesn’t mean you can’t hire an entertainer to do exactly that. Fire performers, whether they’re dancing with the flames or eating them, can help turn up the heat and intensity at your events.
The best of the rest…
While light, fire, and customization are all great ways to make your entertainment more original, they’re not your only options.
You can hire comedians, ethnic dancers, tarot card readers, celebrity lookalikes disguised as staff, magicians, iPad magicians, pickpockets, living statues, etc., and some of these performers can give lessons too.
You can also get inflatables or transform your space with a portable circus or casino. The bottom line is, there are a ton of creative entertainment options out there. You don’t have to go with the typical single DJ or band approach, and if one of these more creative alternatives suits your event, then go for it.
