Whether you choose a raw space for your corporate or social events or the space you’re using doesn’t fit in with your theme, audience, etc., a transformation may be in order.
It could even be that you simply want to put your or your brand’s own personal signature on the aesthetic of your event venue.
No matter the reason, have no fear. We’ve been in event planning in NY and NJ for a long time and we know a thing or two about reinventing an event space so that it suits your theme and audience and also leaves a lasting impression on all who attend.
Use the power of light.
You can completely alter the overall appearance of any event space by making a few adjustments to the lighting setup. For instance, if the space has high ceilings, extra hanging lights, whether they’re chandeliers, lanterns, etc., can make the space feel more intimate.
You can also use smaller or different colored lights as highlights to emphasize certain areas or pieces of the decor, and another option is to use lots of candles, tea lights, etc., to give the space a vintage, somewhat magical glow.
The point is, if you’re looking to transform the setting for your social or corporate events, don’t underestimate the power of light to drastically alter the atmosphere of any space.
Divide and conquer.
Whether you go with a raw, empty space, an unconventional setting, or a traditional venue for your event, you always have the option of getting a little creative with how you arrange your furniture and separate areas.
You don’t have to take the conventional dance-floor-surrounded-by-round-tables approach at wedding events nor apply the chairs-arranged-in-rows method at corporate events. For instance, you can designate certain areas of the space for lounging and relaxing with some couches or comfy chairs.
Then, you can use draping to separate the different areas and to make the entire space feel more intimate, and draping is perfect for venues in which the paint or wallpaper doesn’t work with your theme or decor. Whether you use it all around or just on the ceiling, it creates an entirely new atmosphere.
You can also mix and match your table shapes. In our time in NJ and NY event planning, we’ve seen some creative mixtures of round and square tables. The point is, you can transform an event space simply by how you divide it up.
Bring a taste of the outdoors inside.
Another great way to change up the look of any venue’s interior is to bring natural elements indoors, such as small trees, vines, and/or other greenery. Obviously, this may not always be appropriate and tends to be most effective at an event like a wedding or birthday party.
This technique also works especially well at events in the colder months, but no matter the season, you can transform your event space by bringing a garden or natural feel into the interior.
You can coat columns in the space with vines, separate areas with small trees, use greenery as part of your table settings, create an entrance archway out of cherry blossom branches, etc.
These are just a few of the ways to transform your space…
Those aren’t the only ways you can transform your event space. You can also use a variety of table centerpieces at each table, bold colored glassware rather than the classic clear, unusual or vintage chairs, etc.
The bottom line is that there are plenty of ways to transform any space so that it better suits your theme, decor, audience, etc. You just need to decide when, where, and how often you want to stray from tradition.
